Sterling silver can oxidize over time in air and turn black. It can be easily cleaned with warm water, a little soap, a cloth or a soft toothbrush, or with various silver cleaning agents. Or simply always wear the good piece, the touch keeps it silver.
The gold-plated variant: The high quality galvanic gold plating encases this sterling silver ring with a fine layer of gold. Over time, this layer of gold can rub off, then silver shimmers through.
