Over time, sterling silver can oxidize in air and turn black. It can be cleaned with a soft cloth or toothbrush dipped in warm water with a little soap or with various silver cleaning agents. Or simply wear the good piece a lot, the touch keeps it beautifully silver.

The gold-plated version: The high-quality electroplated gold plating covers this sterling silver ring with a fine layer of gold. Over time, this gold layer can wear off and silver shimmers through. Ideally, you should remove the piece of jewelry when doing sports or intensive work to protect it from manual blows. – I would be happy to re-gilt the ring if necessary for a small fee.
